DEREK GAMBLE| USPTA | DIRECTOR OF TENNIS


Derek grew up playing junior tennis in Charlotte where he had state rankings in the top 10 and sectional rankings in the top 30. He played collegiate tennis on scholarship for UNC-Greensboro (1988-1992). His collegiate tennis included being a four-year starter in singles and doubles. He graduated with two degrees from the Bryan School of Business (marketing & economics).
Derek is the creator, owner and director of Tennis 360 – a full service tennis management company. He started this venture upon leaving Green Valley Park in order to further his tennis career. His past work experience includes the 17-year Director of Tennis at Green Valley Park (February 1997 – February 2014). Derek was also the Assistant Tennis Professional at Starmount Forest Country Club (1993-1997) in Greensboro.
Derek received the 2007 USPTA North Carolina Professional of the Year from the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Southern Division. This award is presented to an individual who achieves excellence in performing the duties of a USPTA Tennis Professional. Areas of achievement might include teaching and coaching, management and administration, competitive play, research and publication, and community service. Derek is a certified member of the USPTA, the world’s oldest and largest association of tennis teaching professionals.
Derek is a 12 year board member and immediate Past President of GRETA (Greensboro Regional Tennis Association ~ USTA). He also served the Secretary of the North Carolina USPTA Board from 2004-2008. Derek captains of the six-time USTA North Carolina State Champion 5.0 / 5.5 Men’s teams from Greensboro. The Greensboro 5.0 Men’s Team won City Championships (2001-2011); North Carolina State Championships (2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009); finished as the USTA Southern Sectional Runner-Up (2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008), USTA Southern Sectional Champions (2009) and the USTA National Champions in 2009. The team competes at the 5.5 level / OPEN divisions currently and has won the Greensboro City Championship and the North Carolina State Championship in 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013. They were the Southern Sectional runners-up in 2010 and the Champions in 2011. In 2011 the team won the 5.5 USTA Men’s National Championship and in 2012 we the USTA National runners-up.
Derek enjoys spending time with his daughter, Lyndsey, also playing golf in his spare time. Derek is extremely excited about the forward progress and leadership of the membership of the Cardinal Swim & Tennis Club and is ready to lead this tennis program to greatness!!
MARVIN JOLLIFFE | USPTR | HEAD TENNIS PROFESSIONAL


Marvin Jolliffe was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa where he started playing tennis at the age of 8. As a junior tennis player in South Africa - Marvin competed on the National Junior Circuit and obtained a ranking as high as Top 25 in the country. After competing as a junior he took 2 years and competed on the adult tour in South Africa with aspirations of competing at the professional level.
Instead, he was awarded a full college scholarship at the age of 22 where he played for Erskine College in South Carolina. He played #1 doubles and #2 singles his first three years at Erskine. In his senior year he played #1 singles and #1 doubles. While at Erskine, Marvin obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Marketing.
Since moving to the United States in 2002 Marvin has taught at many different tennis clubs. Marvin taught at the Quogue Field Club in the Hamptons, NY for eight summers where he ran their junior program. During the winters Marvin taught in Charleston, SC at Wild Dunes Resort and Family Circle Tennis Center. While in Charleston, Marvin also helped as a volunteer Assistant Coach for the Citadel.
Most recently he taught at the Greensboro Country Club where he was an instrumental part of building a top level junior program. Marvin joined Tennis 360 for this exciting opportunity. He is very excited about the most recent contract with the Cardinal Swim and Tennis Club and looks forward to building a fun and successful junior program within the Triad!!

In Marvin’s spare time he loves riding his bike through the woods and going to see live music (especially Bluegrass). He also enjoys traveling and enjoying the great outdoors.
